Late season runner beans

We love runner beans, but our earlier sowings are starting to stop producing beans now. So we tried a late sowing and are growing these up a wig wam.

In these photos, they had got to the top of their canes and were just starting to flower. When they get to the top of their canes, we pinch the growing point out to encourage the production of beans, rather than more vine!

This was a couple of weeks ago now though so I’ll get some updated photos and post what they look like now.

Runner beans love water (as they originate in the rainforest), so we make sure to keep them moist all the time.
