The Mimi tomatoes are the early ones that we potted up a few weeks ago and will grow on in the greenhouse. This is with the aim of getting an early crop of tomatoes. The Mimi variety is a lovely one that we've tried before. They should produce a plethora of yellow cherry tomatoes in... Continue Reading →
Potting up our tomatoes
Last weekend, it was time to pot up some of our tomatoes. Dad has been looking after these for us from when they were sown as seeds until now, as they needed to be started off before our greenhouse was up and running. Tomatoes grow quite successfully in pots we've found in the past, so... Continue Reading →
Hanging basket tomatoes
We wanted to try some tomatoes in hanging baskets this year. We've got to get a couple of brackets to fix them on to the house, but for now, we were going to grow them on in our greenhouse anyway, so that can wait another couple of weeks! We're trying something new for our hanging... Continue Reading →
The greenhouse is filling up!
Last weekend, we filled the beds in the greenhouse with some top soil. We can now grow vegetables direct in the beds, or most likely, in containers that we stand on top of the soil in the beds. Planting out our early tomatoes

It goes to show that although the plants themselves may take a little while to produce a fruit, it doesn't take long before they get moving and it's fun to... Continue Reading →
A seed sowing recap
For those of you who have been following our blog for a while, you will have read much of the detail we're going to include below before. However, we think that sowing seeds well is super important when it comes to growing strong plants and ultimately being successful (most of the time!) with your vegetable... Continue Reading →
Tending to tomatoes
Chris has grown his own tomatoes this year (perhaps he'll write an update on those at some point), but I didn't start any off from seed as I already had too many other things on the go. Dad has grown lots of different varieties though, so I've been helping him look after his, and last... Continue Reading →
We tried our hand at a bit of exhibiting…
The Essex District Association of the National Vegetable Society hosts a Mini Show each year in early July. This year, our sights were set on the collection of four kinds of vegetable, one of each kind. We had the following: cherry tomato, kohl rabi, courgette and potato. And this is our final exhibit! We were... Continue Reading →
