After an initial panic that our strawberry plants weren’t growing as rapidly as we’d hoped, it turns out that even smallish plants can grow a fair crop of strawberries. This is the latest harvest!
What this has got me wondering now is – how many strawberries could we have got if we’d started tending to the plants a bit earlier on?! Definitely one to try and remember for next year.
The straw is definitely doing the trick to keep the strawberries off the muddy soil.
The strawberries in the hanging baskets are also producing fruit now.
As we haven’t had much rain recently, we’ve been watering the strawberries regularly, and also giving them a liquid feed of high potash fertiliser once a week to help them along the way.
straw ya basket an all ….
