After our initial bumpy ride with the Little Gem lettuce, they’re now romping away in their cell tray. As lettuces are relatively hardy, these have now been moved into our greenhouse which is unheated, and they’re growing away nicely. Fingers crossed that in a couple of weeks they will be ready to plant out into containers, which is where we intend to grow them to maturity.

The Marathon broccoli are also growing on nicely in a cold greenhouse. My favourite part of growing brassicas is seeing their first true leaf form, which is exactly what the photo below shows. These will grow on in these 3″ pots until they’re ready to plant out in a few weeks’ time. In the meantime, we’ll keep them watered to prevent the compost drying out.
