Our salad crops have done quite well this year. The radishes are pretty much finished now and are starting to go to seed. This tends to happen once it gets too warm, so you have to eat them quickly when they're ready! The salad leaves are growing well and we've started eating these. We're hopeful... Continue Reading →
The latest from our little garden
We wanted to give you an update on some of the other things we've got growing in the garden at the moment which haven't managed to feature in a post of their own. We planted out a couple of cucumber plants the other weekend, Salt n Pepper, Nimrod and Mini Munch. These have now been... Continue Reading →
Bank holiday sowing
We took the bank holiday weekend as an opportunity to sow some more vegetables to enjoy over the summer months. First up, Chris was sowing some Rougette radishes and some mixed leaf salad in containers. These are sown in multi-purpose compost and then covered with some sieved compost to exclude the light whilst the seeds... Continue Reading →
Our best bits from 2021
Although we've got through the shortest day back in December (and Blue Monday earlier in the week), this is still my least favourite time of the year. The nights might be drawing out, but not quick enough, and its cold, wet and more often than not frosty and or foggy. Therefore, what better time to... Continue Reading →
Pak choi harvest
We were right that the pak choi were nearly ready to harvest. And luckily we did, as they've started to go to seed now with all the hot weather. They were still fine to eat though, flower heads included! Below is a photo of our first harvest with we had with some salmon and veg... Continue Reading →
Start of the week update
Soya beans The soya beans finally seem to have got off their feet. We only have four plants, but hopefully we'll still get some sort of crop. In fact, we need to Google how you grow them on, as we haven't grown these before! For now, they seem to be doing alright in their 3"... Continue Reading →
Container growing continues
Our onions are starting to bulb up now. Fingers crossed they carry on bulbing up to a good size before they stop growing. However, it probably won't be that long before they stop throwing up new leaves at which point they won't swell any more. On that basis, we are giving them a little bit... Continue Reading →
An update on our new crops for 2021
We're having varying success with our new crops for this year. The first of these, the pak choi seem to be growing away nicely in their pots, and before long we're going to have to decide where we're going to pot them up/plant them out. Next up are the soya beans which are less successful.... Continue Reading →
The greenhouse is filling up!
Last weekend, we filled the beds in the greenhouse with some top soil. We can now grow vegetables direct in the beds, or most likely, in containers that we stand on top of the soil in the beds. We'll make sure that the pots have holes in the bottom though, both for drainage, and also... Continue Reading →
Pricking out our pak choi
After sowing the pak choi seeds a week or so ago, they were ready to prick out. They started poking through (as you can see from the photo) after just a couple of days. And it doesn't take them long to get their first set of leaves! We probably should've done a slightly better job... Continue Reading →
